Seng Kee Black Chicken Herbal Soup

Ok... Here's the post in ZQ's famous 猪肝面线. Actually, instead of 猪肝面线, I think it should be better refered to as 腰只面线 lor... Everywhere in the shop you see them having signs of them selling 腰只面线. Whatever it is, the 面线 is supposed to be good since almost everyone is having it.

I eat neither 猪肝 nor 腰只 so in the end I decided to order the 猪肉面线. I ordered a side dish consisting of Seafood Ball Salted Egg Yolk. Although my 面线 had "pon" until the size of 幼面, it is still quite nice. The soup is different from the usual soup that you get outside as they use Black Chicken Herbal Soup. It is a tad spicy but still quite nice. ZQ is obviously in love with it or he will not drive all the way from Woodlands just to eat it. -_-''' I probably won't mind going back again for the 面线. That is if someone is willing to send me home after that. :P

Itacho, No More

I went to Itacho for dinner with Sis this evening. I had heard of quite good things about the eatery. Especially with the LONG queues whenever I passed by it, I thought there must be something about it. I must try this place one of these days. Prices seem quite cheap too.

What a disappointment. I don't find the food fantastic. Prices seem cheap because they serve most of the sushi by per piece basis. So the prices on the menu is for 1 pc of sushi instead of the usual 2 that we are used to. Their idea of Crab meat Salad is cucumbers + crab stick + Prawn roe. I think I can make that myself easily... *roll eyes*

For that price and quality of food, I think my money will be better spent at Sushi Tei. At least I get a more satisfactory meal. That said, please note that I am not those ah siao fan of Sushi Tei. I am not one of those who swear by Sushi Tei and refuse to eat at other Japanese restaurant.

I am totally clueless why is there a snaking queue outside the restaurant. There are at least 20 odd people waiting in the queue to go into the restaurant when we left the place. There might be something more to this restaurant that what I had discovered so far. Unfortunately, I still think this is probably my first and the last time at Itacho.

Itacho, no more.

Ultimate Ramen Champion 2011 - Round 1

The Ultimate Ramen Champion 2011 is here! 6 famous Ramen stores is in Singapore to set up stores for a year to complete for the title of Ultimate Ramen Champion!

Being ramen lovers, of course my bf and I had to go and try it!. We decided to try one at a time
and will cast our vote after we are done with all of them. :D

Round 1 - Taishoken Mori Soba
Bf works in a Japanese company and one of his Japanese colleague recommended us to try Taishoken. He said that Taishoken is one of the most famous ramen stores in Japan. So off to Taishoken we go as the first stop! :D

We tried Taishoken's signature Mori Soba. Taishoken's Mori Soba is known as Tsukemen in which like soba, its noodles and soup served separately. One will have to take some noodles and dipped into the soup before eating.

I find the soup a bit too salty while bf finds it too sweet. -_-'''' ok... I have a sweet tooth and he prefers salty food, maybe that's why the complete difference in the opinion since I heard that the soup is supposed to be both sweet and salty. Don't ask me how they achieve it. :P We both loved the noodles though. Very springy! Yumz...

I am waiting to find a chance to try Ikkousha which HJ and another friend of mine highly recommended. Till then... :D

Artease Cafe

I think the Bubble Milk Tea craze is back in Singapore again. Is this another bubble that will burst soon? I don't know about it. For now, I am happily trying out the new kid (bubble tea) on the block. :D

Artease Cafe seems to be one of the newest pearl milk tea cafe in town. They have something sort of like a slogan "Life without Tea, is just plain Arse" which I kind of like. lol... I didn't feel that it's tea or pearls are exceptionally good even though it is definitely better than Sweet Talk. But come on... WHICH pearl milk tea can be worse than Sweet Talk diluted milk tea? Kind of hard right? I like Artease's shop deco. Other than that, probably the much shorter queue when compared to Koi's. :P It is still worth a try though. For now, I probably won't purposely go all out of the way to buy it. Maybe only when I am around the area... :)

奶茶

Hee... Like I say before, I have always love to drink 奶茶. So this is my review of the 奶茶 that I had drank around in Singapore...

Note huh... I am not an expert in food or drinks review. All these are only my personal opinion. :)

我爱台妹's 珍珠奶茶
I have just tried 我爱台妹's 珍珠奶茶 this evening. Their 珍珠 is quite nice and chewy however, I think it will be perfect if their 奶茶 is more 浓. However, their 奶茶 is still worth a try if you do not want to drink the dilute-till-it-taste-like-water 奶茶 from places like Sweet Talk. The only problem with 我爱台妹 is that there is only 1 outlet in Singapore I think.

Koi Cafe's 珍珠奶茶
If you have been around, you will definitely know about Koi Cafe and it's super duper long queue. How bad is the queue for Koi Cafe? On average, I will have to queue for 15 mins and wait for another 15 mins to get my order. Sigh... Scary queue... I have to get used to the fact of "Where there is good food (drink), there is a queue."

Anyway, I personally prefer Koi Cafe's 珍珠奶茶 over 我爱台妹's. Mostly because Koi has better tea than 我爱台妹. Koi Cafe's 珍珠 is about just as nice as 我爱台妹, only smaller.

蓬莱阁/四季
蓬莱阁 which has changed hands and had its name changed to 四季 still has my favourite 奶茶! The one and only time I tried their 珍珠奶茶, I find that their 珍珠 is not as chewy as I liked. Since then, I have only ordered their 黑砖奶茶. Their 黑砖 is actually coffee jelly, so it helped to impart an additional yummy taste to the 奶茶.

I did notice that the 黑砖奶茶 is not as nice as I remember. I am not sure if this is because of the change of boss. I remembered talking to 蓬莱阁's boss who is a Taiwanese and he insisted on using quality tea for his 奶茶.

If you are looking for quality tea, go try the 黑砖奶茶 at 四季. Otherwise, I think Koi Cafe and 我爱台妹 is not bad also... :)

我爱台妹!

"我爱台妹 台妹爱我 对我来说 林志玲算什么
我爱台妹 台妹爱我 对我来说 侯佩岑算什么"

Hee... I have always love 珍珠奶茶. So I was delighted when my bf brought me to drink 我爱台妹's 珍珠奶茶 today. :D

我爱台妹 is located in Bugis area. I have heard of this shop before but did not have any chance to go there until just now. Basically 我爱台妹 is a small shopfront that sells Taiwanese food, kind of like 士林小吃 that you can find everywhere. The interesting thing about this shop is that the names of the main dishes that they sell are named similar to Taiwanese artists. So you find food names called Selina, Ella, Hebe, 林志零 and 侯佩橙。

Food there taste quite ok. I tried Hebe and Selina and personally, I preferred Hebe which is a Lemon Crispy Chicken Chop. I wanted to try Ella which is Xtra Crispy Chicken Chop but it was already sold out. Next time ba... :D

星仔(香港)臭豆腐

I went to 星仔(香港)臭豆腐 for dinner over the weekend. It has been quite some time since I last went there. I was never fascinated with 臭豆腐 at all so naturally I won't purposely go there for dinner unless someone proposed to.

I still remember 星仔(香港)臭豆腐 has the smelliest 臭豆腐 I had ever smell before in Singapore. Not that there's a lot of places selling 臭豆腐 in Singapore. The only other place that I know is 蓬莱阁. So it's not a very fair comparison also. :P

Anyway, since I was already there, I decided to try the 臭豆腐 again to see if it is really as yummy as what everyone says... Or if it is still as yucky as I remembered it to be...

麻辣臭豆腐

臭豆腐

Chicken Claws

生鱼

车仔面

The 臭豆腐 does not smell as bad as what I remembered it to be. The taste was ok, still acceptable. The only thing is that I find it quite expensive. I vaguely remember that it cost $2 for a piece of 臭豆腐. That's quite expensive for such a small piece of toufu...

The food there is not bad but I will think twice about visiting this place again because of the price... :P

Fat!

After spending many days studying together with my classmates, I have come to a realisation... I better start my jogging soon... At the rate I am eating with them, I think I will be like another classmate of mine who put on 10kg in 2 months.

These 2 classmates of mine are like real foodies lor... I heard from the one who put on 10kg in 2 months that if they recommend some food, the food will surely be good one. Haha... So far I have tried the steak from Uno Beef House, Chicken Rice from West Coast Market Place, Dim Sum from Red Star and Crabs from Red House. No regrets yet... :D The only regret is probably the weight that I think I am putting on... lol...

They are delighted to find 2 more kakis to join them on their food hunt... Ok... I will look forward to the next food hunt. But I really need to get down to jogging... Haha...

Exams = Get Fat Part 2

Wah liao... Exams is really the time to get fat... Especially with this bunch of classmates of mine... Haha...

We met up at Red Star at 10am this morning for dim sum. We ate until I can feel the food at my throat. :P

After our dim sum session, we proceeded to West Coast McDonald's to study. I was quite bored with studying by 6+ so I started to think what to eat for dinner. I looked at my classmate and told her that I suddenly have cravings for crabs! I can practically see her lighting up when she heard the word crabs. So after we asked one another, we decided to have crabs for dinner! :D

My classmates wanted to go one of the usual favorite seafood restaurant for the crabs but it was closed for renovation. As they wanted to eat those BIG crabs, we called up a few Jumbo outlets and other seafood restaurants to check if they have those big crabs available. We finally settled for Red House in East Coast Park. :D

The crabs were huge and yummy! :D I love their white pepper crabs! We really don't regret going there. The food was great and the service was fantastic too. Being quite picky on service, I really think the service standard in Red House is really good. The service charge is well worth it which is probably the first time I think this way.

My Tibits Stash

Recently I started noticing an increase in the amount of tibits found in my room that I have yet to touch, eat or share or whatever I should do with them... Some of them was bought by, some are given to me by others and it's kind of scary because before I know it, they seem to stockpile...

I think it's time for me to do something about them... Maybe I should bring them to my office... If not, I think they will stay there for quite sometime since I am those "out of sight, out of mind" kind of person :P

Japanese Mug Noodles

I bought this Japanese Mug Noodles from Meidi-Ya Supermarket in Liang Court quite sometime ago. It looks so cute that I just have to buy it. :P

I finally have time to try it and this is how it looks like! Cute right? :D There are actually 2 different flavours. However I only realised it after I pour the 2 different flavours into the cup itself. I decided to just eat them together. Luckily the taste is still quite nice. :P

Macarons~!

Macarons must be one of my favourite desserts or pastry around. It's true that it's very sweet but being me, who loves almost everything sweet, it is absolutely heaven to me. :D

I passed by Canele this evening and saw their Macarons. How can I possibly resist them? My bf bought me one because I find them too expensive and refused to get more than one. No matter how much I love them, I still think that one small macaron cost $2.30 is too expensive! It can only be an indulgence for me once in a while. :(

Anyway, I think Canele looks like a very nice dessert place to go. I will pop by there for dessert one of these days. :D

Melty Kiss~!

I was at the supermarket in Isetan Shaw House this evening when I saw Melty Kiss on the shelves. Finally it's the time of the year when Melty Kiss is out in the market again! Hee... :D The supermarket in Isetan Shaw House has 3 flavours on their shelves; Strawberry, Chocolate and Dark Rum. As I tried Strawberry and Chocolate flavours before, so I bought the Dark Rum to try. Yummy~! :D

Dallas Chicken

I went to Dallas Chicken with my boyfriend last weekend to have a late lunch there. As we were not very hungry so we did not try out their chicken buffet. In fact, having a buffet of fried chicken does not appeal to me at all. I think I will be pretty sick of fried chicken after the 3rd or 4th piece, provided I can eat that much in the first place. :P

Anyway, I was not very fascinated by Dallas Chicken at all. It is just... chicken lor... I still prefer KFC anytime even though KFC is definitely much more oilier but at least the chicken is still tasty... Popeye is another good choice over Dallas also...

I took a look at their $12 buffet and there are some terms and conditions that comes with it. It not exactly an All-You-Can-Eat kind of buffet. Not that I am really interested in it though. :P

Dallas Chicken anyone?

Happy Birthday~!

Happy Birthday to me! :P How time flies... I have just turn 26 today. Errmmm... Wrong... I should still insist like how I insist to my colleagues that I am 21 every year. :P No matter how old I am, I still feel that time really flies... It's good in a way but in another way, I feel that it flies too fast... There are so many things that I want to but have yet to have a chance to do.

Anyway, my manager treated me to lunch at a very nice restaurant in Vivocity called Imperial Herbal Restaurant. The food there is very good! Definitely worth a visit for all. Price wise is still pretty ok but it also depend on what you are ordering.

养颜汤

Some very yummy appetiser with egg yolk and dried scallops. Supposed to be their best seller I think.

My main course for lunch. It's some Japanese style noodles.

I have a lovely colleague who baked a strawberry shortcake for me as my birthday cake! :D

I met my bf for dinner at Ma Maison in Bugis. I quite like that restaurant even though I have a friend who don't think the food there is worth paying so much for.

My Sirloin Steak in Tamari sauce

My bf's Tonkatsu Set

My sirloin steak was more of a medium cooked even though I requested for medium well. However the steak was quite nice and the portion was quite big.

I had a yummy birthday today... No wonder I am putting on weight... :(

Olio Dome Holland Village

I had been craving for Olio Dome's Brownie and hot Passionfruit Tea for quite sometime already. I finally get a chance to satisfy my cravings today! :D

I met my bf at Bedok after work and we went all the way down to the Olio Dome in Holland Village for dinner. Actually I am not very particularly fond of Holland Village because I think it is very out of place and it is not exactly a very convenient place to go home from. However, I don't mind going there if someone is willing to send me home after that. Or else most of the time I usually opt for taxis to bring me home from there. It is just too much of a hassle to get home from Holland Village. :P

Anyway, we had our dinner and of course dessert there. We ordered the usual boring Golden Fish and Chips and Teriyaki Pizza for dinner. The Teriyaki pizza was too big for me to finish on my own so I had to rely on my bf's help to finish it. Their Fish and Chips was nicely fried but a bit too dry. Same thing goes for the Calamari that we ordered too. I think their food have the tendency to be too dry after they fried it even though the taste was still quite alright.

Golden Fish and Chips

Teriyaki Pizza

I have been craving for their brownie for the longest time so of course it was in my order for dessert. And yes, of course, my hot Passionfruit Tea... We ordered the Olio Style Brownie and I must admit, I was kind of disappointed... Yes, it is nice to have it on a hot plate sizzling with hot fudge (I used to have to specially request the waiter to give me hot fudge for the brownie) and novelty of the vanilla ice-cream sandwiched in between the brownie, but it is no longer the good old Brownie that I used to have many years ago. The taste of the brownie is no longer as good as what it used to be. :( Luckily the hot Passionfruit Tea taste just as good as what I remembered it to be...

Hot Passionfruit Tea saved the day! :D

I doubt I will return to Olio Dome for their brownies again... At least not in a long long time... :(

Dinner at the New 7th Storey Hotel

I have been thinking of trying out the charcoal steamboat at the New 7th Storey Hotel for quite sometime. Since my bf and I were met up in Bugis just now, we decided to pop over and have our dinner there.

We ordered the charcoal steamboat set for 2 pax ($29) and another ala carte Hainanese Pork Chop ($13.80). The food came quite fast and the charcoal steamboat is boiling hot... This was the first time I ate charcoal steamboat. The food is that comes in the set is quite basic with vegetables, eggs, fish, chicken, tofu, 2 eggs, 3 prawns, mushrooms... If you do not like the food that comes with the set, there are other ala carte items on the menu that you can choose from. Theirs are not those buffet steamboat with all you can eat kind of stuff. The soup base for the steamboat is very nice... At least I quite like it... :D

The Hainanese Pork Chop is quite good too. It is crispy but yet not oily. Yum...

Total bill came up to around $50+. Not too expensive and nice food. Remember to go there and try the food before the whole hotel has to go in December...

Food Festival 2008

I went down to the Food Festival that was held in Suntec on Friday and today. The turnout for Friday is quite small but maybe it is because we went there only at 8+pm. The crowd for today was much bigger but not as big as I had imagined it to be for a Saturday.

My bf and I were buying and eating the food while we walked around the place. As usual, some of the food is quite nice but others are only so so... The only two food that left a lasting impression on me was the Black Sesame ice-cream and Honey Chicken chop.

The Black Sesame ice-cream from this company called YouCan. I think it's really yummy... Hee... We tried it yesterday and wanted to buy it home but as we had a movie to catch so we decided not to since we are sure the ice cream won't be able to last so long. :( Since my bf's family wanted to go there today so we finally bought some home. :D I was asking the Auntie if there's any discount for buying more since we are buying 12 ice creams in all and in the end she gave us a $0.40 discount and a free ice-cream! The discount is not a lot but at least I get a free ice-cream. :D Before we left the place, I went back and bought another 6 ice-cream and she gave me a free ice cream again. :D

The Honey Chicken Chop was those Taiwanese style chicken chop but just that it was not those crispy style. They added pepper and chicken powder on the chicken chop and cut it into smaller pieces before putting them into a paper bag with a few satay sticks for you to eat while on the go. Yummy...

One thing I just cannot understand was that there was so much smoke around the exihibition hall, with the smoke detectors around the place, how come the sprinklers did not start spraying water down? Did they deactivate the sprinkler system just for this event? Or are those not even working in the first place?

My hot chocolate from McCafe... Pretty right? :D

Long Time No See A&W...

My bf bought back A&W for me when he cam back to Singapore from Batam on friday. Hee... Wah... How I missed the curly fries from A&W... Their waffles with ice cream... Yummy... Too bad he can't buy waffles with ice cream back from there. I have been missing their food ever since they closed their last A&W store... So sad...

I was carrying the bag of food from A&W while walking in Orchard when this guy came up to me...

Guy: Excuse me Miss...
Me: (Looking at him in surprise because I definitely don't know him at all) Yes?
Guy: Is that A&W?
Me: Ya...?
Guy: Where did you get it?! (With his face lit up like he saw gold)
Me: Batam...
Guy: O... ok... Thanks... (Looking utterly crestfallen)

I think he is really funny... His expressions changed so much within minutes... :P
