Thoughts about Singapore GE 2015

To be honest, I never had much interest in Singapore politics. Politics is probably something that catches my interest only when elections are due. I do not dislike PAP which is the ruling party in the so-called democratic Singapore. That said, it does not mean I like PAP also.

To be fair, PAP has done a good job in bringing Singapore to where it is now. However, this does not mean they are really doing such a fantastic job that no one else is able to take over. It is not like if one day, PAP were to lose the majority seats that they have in the Parliament, Singapore will crash and disappear from the surface of the world. I have learnt over the years that no one is indispensable.

Over the years, I felt that some of the Opposition parties have gained some candidates of very good calibre. Some of them, even better than what PAP has even though PAP is so-called supposed to have talents with the scores of President Scholars amongst them. Some of the MPs from PAP really makes me wonder how did they end up in the Parliament. They can be SUPER disconnected to the lives of us commoners. So much so that I think they should feel ashamed of themselves as they are meant to serve the country. Some actually made comments that made me rolled my eyes and go "WTF?!" Did we, Singaporeans, really vote them in? Or are they in because of the GRC system?

I think the GRC system is a stupid system, yet I can understand why they cannot do away with that system. The government is making use of the GRC system to ensure they can "parachute" some people into the parliament should the team win the election for that particular constituency which may at times be due to a certain individual. If they were to change all the constituencies into SMCs, I bet there will be more than the 7 opposition parties in the parliament now. However, I believed PAP learnt a hard lesson with Aljunied GRC in 2011 GE when they lost to WP and in turn lost George Yeo. I hope, this year, their loss will not be as great as last elections. I believe, PAP will probably lose one or two more GRC/SMC to the opposition even though they will still remain as the ruling party.

If only they do away with the GRC system, it won't be such a dilemma for me to decide who to vote for... "Vote wisely". Easier said than done. If the opposition party competing in the constituency that I am in is more worthy of my vote, I probably won't be in such a dilemma. That said, I am not a fan of the PAP in my constituency too.

I don't think I will tikam at the polling station like what I told my friend jokingly. I doubt I will want to waste my vote. We shall see... Today is the Polling Day! I am actually quite excited to see if there is any black horse! :D
